Xyster
Name:
Xyster
Age:
Technically 6, but age means little to Dullahans, which are full-grown from incarnation
Magic:
Reaper Magic – Deathly magic capable of wounding, torturing, and even killing others. It is said that the very beings responsible for all death use this same sort of magic. This magic is unique in the fact that the spells need no incantation to activate; instead, they have prerequisites.
Magic Level:
A
Harvester – Xyster's scythe. Its head is sharpened on all sides, and its light weight means it can be swung around with easy, making a far more viable weapon than most unwieldy scythes. The Harvester is Xyster's primary weapon, one she's been using almost constantly ever since her incarnation six years ago, and her style with it is almost flawless. To be summoned, Xyster must have a target in mind that she wishes to cause harm to.
Death Knell – a ghoulish scream. Those who hear it are likely to be stricken with terror, and want to flee. This spell becomes more likely to work if listeners are already wounded or scared, as it amplifies their own fear. To be used, Xyster must be in the dark.
Jack Be Nimble – Xyster drastically increases her speed and jumping power. To be used, Xyster must be in pursuit of someone who is fleeing.
Death Glare Xyster's green eyes turn a marble-black, and anyone who happens to look into them is unable to look away, though if they can get a wall between them the spell is broken. As long as someone looks into Xyster's eyes in this state, their stamina seeps away. To be used, Xyster must be in her 'serious mode.'
Dance Macabre – the ribbon in the hair of Xyster's head unravels and shoots forward, wrapping around whatever it encounters. From there, Xyster tugs on the ribbon, launching her head toward the foe and opening uncannily wide her mouth. If she manages to clamp her jaws on the enemy, even on clothing or armor, that enemy suffers massive darkness damage. Typically, the ribbons then shoot back to Xyster's body, allowing her to retrieve her head. A very good finishing move. To be used, Xyster must intend to kill her enemy, even if she changes her mind afterward, and therefore must be serious.
The Bells Toll – In order to use this spell, Xyster must have previously summoned the Harvester, and must have previously lost to the thing she's fighting. Xyster's skin turns pitch black and her head and body switch properties; that is, her body is invincible (by way of intangibility) and her head becomes touchable. She throws herself forward in a lunatic offense. During this time, the Harvester will phase completely through anything, and after it exits, the visceral cut appears. This is Xyster's deadliest move.
History:
Xyster first came into contact with Frenzy Plant while several of its members -Bytan Brass, Leixa Wuiwomi, and Jane Putcher- were out on a job in a rural village at Halloweentime. The village had been attacked every night for a week by creatures of darkness, but why nobody could really say. The guild members began their investigation, and turned up with surprising easy an old woman practicing dark arts. When they confronted her, the old woman explained that the village had been facing a period of famine, and only through her dark arts were the croplands rendered fertile. She also explained that her actions had brought down a curse, but the curse could be lifted. As such, the guild members waited until nightfall, and then defeated every single monster they encountered, until they met the Dullahan.
This headless creature attacked the soldiers of Frenzy Plant with a bladed scythe with such ferocity that they could only contain her. At a loss for how to defeat her, the three dragged her back to the guild hall, where Indigo Afina determined that a magic seal could permanently dispel the Dullahan's 'death trance'. There were no seals to be found, but Indigo guessed that the Frenzy Plant guild mark could do the same thing, and after trying it, the Dullahan became a totally different person. Now calling herself Xyster, she demanded to be able to join the guild, and fought her way past C-rank, B-rank, and A-rank, only to be defeated by Indigo herself. As such, she was assigned A-rank, and quickly developed a friendship with Demetri Argentum. Later, when Owen Whately joined the guild and achieved A-rank, the three formed the team Cut Capers, and became Frenzy Plant's premier taskforce. Her abilities and appearance terrify friends and foes alike, however human she tries to be.
Personality:
Even as members of Frenzy Plant go, Xyster is both quirky and deadly—in fact, she perhaps personifies this best. Being a Dullahan, she has a thing for death and blood, and enjoys them both immensely. However, she's also fascinated by human life and culture, and therefore never kills or hurts people without provocation. Xyster loves doing explicitly human things, like going shopping, visiting bars, attending parties and weddings, and a whole host of other things, and pretends to be oblivious of her frightening appearance to fit in more with people. When it comes to intellect, it's been said that since Xyster's head is detachable, she's forced to 'think with her heart'. She does, in fact, let emotions rule her, and is as a rule pretty ditzy. All that aside, she is an extremely capable fighter, particularly when she gets serious. Xyster likes popping up around people and shouting 'boo'.
Team:
Team Cut Capers with Demetri Argentum and Owen Whately
Three Strengths:
1. Xyster's head is invincible and detachable. She can use it as a projectile, a crude shield, and a sentry.
2. When fighting a single foe, Xyster is a terrifying combatant. If she doesn't immediately have the advantage, she can adapt quickly to exploit a single enemy's weaknesses, and her Reaper Magic makes her adept at taking solitary opponents down. That is, if she's serious.
3. Having been bound to Frenzy Plant by the forced application of the guild mark, she is completely loyal to Frenzy Plant, and will never falter in her belief or her loyalty. She is literally not capable of doing so.
Three Weaknesses:
1. Xyster is utterly terrified of gold. She can sense it around her, and should she sense it, almost always turns tail to flee. If touched by gold, she evaporates, and reappears 77 miles away in great pain.
2. Despite being a supernatural creature and having incredible fighting instincts, Xyster is very ditzy. If the situation doesn't expressly call for it, she seldom acts seriously, and this can lead to both painful social interactions and painful combat repercussions.
3. Using Reaper Magic has bound her spirit to whatever gods of death are out there, and she expects that someday she'll pay a hefty price for her flippant use of them.
Greatest Love: Death
Motivation: To find out what it's like to be human, and to enjoy a human-esque life
'Additional Details:
Despite having a head that is almost never on, Xyster still needs to eat, sleep, and breathe. Food and air go into her head, wherever it is, and then disappear. A popular subject among Xyster's guildmates is whether or not she is capable of feeling love. So far the only information that Xyster has divulged is that 'tamed' Dullahans (as in those freed of their monstrous hatred via magical seals) are capable of reproduction.
