Indigo “Indy” Afina
Name:
Indigo “Indy” Afina
Age:
28
Magic:
The Librarian
a blend of Book Magic and requip. Indigo can summon to her hand any book she has seen and knows the title of, and then use those books as channels for her own magic power. The type of magic resulting from this channel depends on the contents of the book itself; Indigo's magic is among the most versatile known to man.
Magic Level:
S
Notable books:
The Yawg – a book about an ill-fated city beset by a legendary storm. When channeling this book, Indigo can create storms of her own, using wind, lightning, and even sand as she pleases.
Seven Days to Die – a book about a traveler lost in a desert, fighting off hallucinations and the elements as he slowly dies of thirst. When channeling this book, Indigo can fling around blasts and beams of heat.
Subnautica – a book about a great shipwreck and its sole survivor's colonization of a strange and alien ocean. When channeling this book, Indigo can breath underwater, swim very quickly, and heal others with water, or simply release a stream of water from the book.
Shovel Knight – a novel about a delusional man in stolen armor, who wields a shovel and adventures around the land proclaiming himself to be a hero. When channeling this book, Indigo can control earth.
Nosgoth – a tale of a vampiric plague and humanity's endeavor to end it. When channeling this book, Indigo can summon bats, sprout her own bat wings to fly, and drain magic power from others via touch.
Defense of the Ancients – a book about a league of warriors locked in eternal battle. When channeling this book, Indigo can create shields or blasts of red fire, or create statues with the ability to do so.
Wolfenstein – a story about a wolf who becomes human and tries to adapt to civilization. When channeling this book, Indigo strengthens the magic power of those she sees as allies. If push comes to shove, she can also use it to empower herself, increasing her physical strength, agility, and speed while giving her wolflike claws.
The Order – a story about a charismatic psychopath who wormed his way into a country's government, gained power, and transformed it into a dictatorship. When channeling this book, Indigo can give an opponent an 'order', and assign a 'penalty' that will befall them if they break their order. The penalty must be somewhat analogous to the order itself. For instance, Indigo can order an enemy not to attack her, and say that if she disobeys, she'll suffer the damage of her attack. Trying to give the same person a second order will overwrite the first one.
A Tale of Two Sons – a book about a man with two souls. When channeling this book, Indigo can create doubles of herself that share the same abilities at half the strength. Of course, she doesn't copy her books, and no instance of her can use the same book. This is Indigo's strongest book, since it allows her to effectively perform combos with herself.
History:
For a wizard of such power and influence, Indigo had a very unimpressive childhood. She attended Eva's Academy for Girls, where she developed her affinity for books, and grew up among the upper middle class in a town near Crocus called Beiville. Her family paid a great deal for her tutelage in the magical arts when she expressed an interest in it, and she continued to grow in magical power until her twentieth birthday, when by pure misfortune she was abducted by a band of vagabonds called the Corpse Flies along with numerous other young women. Unfortunately, her first attempted act to escape nearly succeeded, which meant that the vagabonds were wise to her abilities. After some weeks in captivity, all the while being taken far, far away via train, she and the others were rescued by a woman claiming to be an Emerald Dragon Slayer. Relieved to be free once more, she joined the heroine and the heroine's boyfriend afterward, for her home lay along the route to their destination.
On the long route, and over the course of numerous events, the heroine's boyfriend became infatuated with Indigo, and she with him. Nothing developed due to this attraction, but when the Dragon Slayer found out, she was furious, and challenged Indigo to a duel. The battle raged for hours, both sides putting their pride on the line, and though Indigo ultimately lost she grew far stronger because of it. After her defeat, however, she was abandoned by the Dragon Slayer and her companion, and trekked on her own toward her home. She eventually found companionship in the form on another traveler, an upbeat author wandering the countryside to find inspiration for his stories, and the two formed a friendship. When the two arrived at Oak Town, they realized the futility of traveling on foot, and took up residence in Oak Town while they earned enough money to procure better transportation. The author continued in his writer, while Indigo signed on to the local guild: Frenzy Plant, where she barely managed to attain the A rank. After some months in the town, the author and the librarian found that they had more than enough money to leave, but discovered that they didn't want to, for they knew that to leave Oak Town would mean to part ways. They realized then that they were in love, and now, seven years hence, they continue their lines of work together. After incorporating the book A Tale of Two Sons and becoming able to perform combos with herself, Indigo gained the power of S-rank.
Personality:
Calm, considerate, and generally peaceful, Indigo is nevertheless a carrier of the Frenzy Plant warrior spirit. She is fond of teaching others, through hard work and feats of prowess, though she is averse to physical strain herself. Pleased with neatness, propriety, and routine, she takes pride in managing the guild's accounts and public image, often appearing on the sidelines of major events. A thorough believer in communal spirit, she spends a lot of time in Oak Town. Her optimistic and supportive nature lead some to see her as the 'guild mom'. Loud noises, raucous people, and troublemakers disturb her. One of Indigo's more prominent traits is her tendency to 'ship'--that is, to pair people together as romantic couples. This hobby has led to a lot of mixed emotions among the other members of Frenzy Plant, be it amusement, awkwardness, indignation, or the spark of genuine affection. Indigo prefers to fight only as a last resort, but she uses some of her magic very casually.
Team Members:
None, though she often works with Zander Louvier due to their shared level of authority
Three Strengths:
1. Deceptive – despite her organized, slow-moving, soft appearance, Indigo is tied for the position of strongest wizard in Frenzy Plant. Though she is genuinely caring and tranquil, she also uses those qualities as a mask to make prospective opponents think she is less of a threat.
2. Physically capable – even without magic, Indigo is a surprisingly good fighter. Her slaps carry an uncanny amount of wallop, and should she decide to use on of her magical tomes as a melee weapon, it is wise to beware.
3. Ambitious – Indigo is not afraid to want and take the best for herself and her guild. Leave it to her to make the most out of any given situation. It is one reason why she is so adept at managing Frenzy Plant accounts and public image. She makes greed look good...most of the time.
Three Weaknesses:
1. Indigo is rather set in her own concepts of what is right and proper. It takes her a while to acclimate to new ideas, and she never truly accepts ones that oppose her own ideology. This can lead to conflicts with others, namely new-age thinkers out to challenge tradition.
2. One of the reasons she seldom talks about her family is that she is horrified that bad people will use her non-magical family against her. In essence, one of her weaknesses is her care for her family, though only the most dastardly of foes would try to use it against her.
3. Ambitious – Sometimes, Indigo lets her greed get the better of her. She might reach a little too far to get the treasure or to make an important contact, not fully taking note of the consequences.
Greatest Love:
Seeing romance blossom, especially as a result o her matchmaking.
Motivation:
To see Frenzy Plant become Fiore's number-one guild
Additional Details:
Indigo is actually a mother. She has two boys in Oak town that she visits very often, who live with her husband, Avdol Afina, a prominent author. When questioned why she doesn't talk about her family much, she says “It is wise to keep personal and professional life separate, no? When apart, they grow more wonderful, but in their own ways. To mesh them would be to rob them of their own character.”
