Hyun Sasithorn
Name:
Hyun Sasithorn
Age:
36
Magic:
Nullification Magic
the power to render other magics useless against her. While this can cancel magical effects of magic items, such as Holder items or weapons summoned by caster magic, it does not destroy the items themselves. When a spell is about to affect Hyun, a lavender-colored field flares around her momentarily, wasting the spell. The only spell Hyun can cast with this magic is Mundane Spark, which makes a single foe unable to perform magic for one minute and eleven seconds, during which time Hyun's own Nullification Magic doesn't work, either.
Magic Level:
A
History:
A generation ago, the ruling dynasty of Seven, Sasithorn, had their claim disputed by its rival royal clan, Siddhartha. Such is the way of the feudal nation of Seven, where rulership is decided by strength and honor in 'mock wars' that brought out the greatest in talent and tactics but cost no lives. A short mock war waged between the two ruling clans, and in the end, Siddhartha stood victorious. The Sasithorns were permitted to recede to 'second-best' status with dignity, as was the custom. Nothing much changed in the country with the change in leadership, except that a young daughter of the deposed Sasithorn clan, Hyun, was instilled forever with the ambition to earn back her throne.
So it was that her childhood progressed to the tempo of a soulfelt mission. The ancient Seven way of the warrior, one where magic took backstage to physical skill, flourished within her. In fact, her choice of magic only further cemented this path, for it ensured that any with enough brass to challenge her with magic would be knocked back down to size and fight her in her territory. In preparation for her eventual challenge for the Siddhartha's throne, she traveled to other lands, including Fiore, where she first saw magical warfare in the power struggle between two large guilds. Returning to her homeland, Hyun challenged the ruling dynasty on her twentieth birthday. She led the Sasithorn legions against the forces of Seven's monarch, but ultimately failed. Undetered, Hyun continued to whet her sword and her spirit, and on her twenty-fifth birthday challenged the Siddhartha clan again. This time her campaign culminated in the final step: a one-on-one duel with the champion of the ruling dynasty, Uk Siddhartha. By the closest and most resolve-shattering of margins, Hyun lost, and in his wrath, Uk banished her from the country.
And so, the rightful queen found herself an outcast back in Fiore. Lost and hopeless, she developed alcoholism, and wandered around trying to find a foe strong enough to end her misery. Instead, she found Frenzy Plant, in its fifth year after becoming a fully-fledged guild, and battled the man who found her -Demetri Argentum- to a standstill after negating his Hekatonkheires and forcing him to pit his burning fists against her sword. After grudgingly trying out guild life at his behest, she found renewed purpose and perhaps even a path back to her throne, be it growing stronger herself or enlisting the power of her new comrades. Hyun joined Frenzy Plant, and has been a valuable asset ever since—its melee combat champion.
Personality:
Icy, proud, and serious, the rightful queen of Seven is a hard woman to read and a harder woman to reach. She is courteous and respectful, acknowledging the guild's hierarchy system, and well-disciplined, but she is not given to outbursts of emotion. Humor is a foreign concept to this foreigner, and though not malicious, her 'I am unamused' look is crippling. She is accustomed to giving all she can for causes she believes in, and demands the same of others. A sharp intellect graces her unflappable cool.
Team Members:
None
Three Strengths:
1. The Equalizer – Hyun's magic allows her to effectively make a person she's engaged in combat into an ordinary human. Since this is Hyun's magic's only function, she brings any mage down to her own level.
2. Campaigner – due to her past, Hyun has vast experience in the art of war, and makes a good field commander alongside Zander Louvier. More notably, she is the guild's secondary tactician, after Sanders.
3. Rightful Queen – Hyun's name and demeanor carry some weight. Even in exile, she carries authority and power, though more with Sevenese than anyone else. Moreover, she exudes the air of a person in charge.
Three Weaknesses:
1. Though Hyun's Nullification keeps enemies from attacking her with magic, they are free to attack using all sorts of conventional weapons, and Hyun has always had a difficult time against certain projectile weapons, namely crossbows, bows, and guns.
2. Detached – Hyun's stoicism, level of demand, and high-flown manner make her unapproachable for some. Friends come slowly to her, if at all.
3. Picky – Hyun would rather starve than eat certain foods.
Greatest Love:
A good night's sleep in the vast, sublime bed of the monarch of Seven kingdom.
Motivation:
To reclaim her throne in due course. To accomplish this, she hopes to convince Frenzy Plant's might to back her claim, or failing that, become the guild master and have it do so herself.
Additional Details:
Hyun wields two blades to attack, a style useful for both offense and defense. Her left-hand blade is called Kwang Gae (Regaining the Lost Territories) and her right-hand blade is called Chon Ji (Heaven and Earth). Though often encouraged to take part in the tomfoolery present in the guild when off-duty, she never does.
